Helen Floyd Carlin Collection, 1862-1903.

Civil War and personal papers and artifacts of Mahlon Floyd, Sanford Fortner, and James L. Evans. Floyd's papers include Civil War diaries and letters, a soldiers' hymnal, an 1889 letter and speech on Sherman's March, and obituaries. Fortner's papers contain reports, 1863-1865, while serving on the staff of the 2nd Brigade. Included are quartermaster, casualty, and POW and deserter reports. Evans' materials include his Indianapolis Board of Trade membership and an obituary. Artifacts include part of a Civil War uniform, eyeglasses, and a fan notebook. There is also an unidentified photograph. The donor requested that the collection be named after his wife, Helen Floyd Carlin.

The 75th Indiana Infantry Regiment was mustered in at Wabash, Ind., in August 1862. During the Civil War it saw duty in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina.
